How to apply for Asylum in the UK?

An individual can seek asylum in the UK, on the basis that he/she fears persecution in their home country. The law that applies to asylum claims is largely derived from what is known as the ‘Refugee Convention’.A Refugee is a person who, owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside his country of nationality and is unable, or owing to such fear is unwilling, to avail himself of the protection of that country.

What is the Asylum Interview?

The first part of the asylum application process is an interview with the Home Office. This takes place at an Asylum Screening Unit. At this interview, your basic details and identity will be recorded and you will be given the opportunity to explain the basis of your asylum claim in brief. We will assist you in making representations to the Home Office in order to clarify the mistakes. You should do this as soon as possible, otherwise there is a risk that if mistakes are left uncorrected, these could be held against as your asylum claim progresses.
